MAYFAIR Manor, Alibag

An Urban Getaway

Everyone,Under One Roof

MAYFAIR Manor stands at Nandai Fata in Zirad, on Revas Road, about an hour from Mumbai by the harbour ferry or the coastal road. It is a house rather than a hotel, and can be taken whole: ask the property for exclusive-use terms. Kihim and Kamath beaches are close, dark sand under coconut and betel groves. Meals come from The Manor's Table, on a coast whose Agri and Koli kitchens run to bangda in a thin red curry, sol kadhi of kokum and coconut milk, and Alibag's white onion, sweet enough to be eaten raw and carrying a geographical indication of its own.

MAYFAIR Manor

MAYFAIR Manor feels less like a hotel than a house lent for the weekend. The pool lies still among plants and trees, the lawn opens wide and green, and the day moves at the pace of the people you brought. Evenings drift out under the stars. Indoors the library keeps its hush, the stair hall is hung with paintings, and for a while the whole house is yours.

The Konkan Shore

Alibag lies on the Konkan coast an hour's crossing south of Mumbai, its dark beaches shaded by coconut and betel groves. Offshore stands the Kolaba Fort, a Maratha sea fort of the seventeenth century, reached on foot when the tide draws back.

It is most pleasant from November to February, cool and clear along the shore.
