MAYFAIR On Sea, Morjim

Oceanfront Escape

The Coast,At Its Quietest

Morjim is turtle country: the Olive Ridley turtles nest here each winter, on the beach where the Chapora river meets the sea, and at low tide there are long walks over hard sand. The Shack Bar is thatched and open to the air, a long bar with the sea behind it. MAYFAIR On Sea's table is Coy Coi Beach Club, on decking at the sand's edge, where the boats decide the day's fish: xacuti grinding roasted coconut with poppy seed, recheado masala packed into a split mackerel, and sorpotel and vindalho carrying the Portuguese vinegar. The bar pours feni, distilled from cashew apples.

MAYFAIR On Sea

On white sand in a sleepy beach town, the resort keeps a tranquil air all its own. The lawn opens towards the water, and the day finds its own pace: long mornings, salt in the air, a swim, a walk over hard sand at low tide. At sunset the sea-view deck is the best seat on the property, and the evening unfolds slowly from there.

Highlights

A beach resort in sleepy Morjim, on the north Goan coast, whose rooms are mostly cottages with a private balcony, so the long, unhurried days are spent somewhere entirely your own.

On Morjim Time

On Morjim Time

Morjim keeps time by the tides and the fishing seasons. Mornings run long, the air tastes of salt, and evenings unfold slowly as the sun sets over the sea.
