The District's Largest Sports Zone
A cricket ground on the estate, part of the largest sports zone in the district, so a match can be one of the ways a stay here is spent.

MAYFAIR Purnea stands at Zero Mile in Gulabbagh, the junction of eastern Bihar, on the road between Patna, Siliguri and the Nepal border, where the mandi moves the maize. The Restaurant runs breakfast through high tea to dinner, and in a town without another room like it, it is Purnea's occasion address. Around it, the region's table: sattu packed into litti and roasted over coal beside a chokha of brinjal and tomato, and makhana from the Kosi plain's ponds, most of the country's crop coming from Bihar. The MAYFAIR Spa runs Western and Oriental therapies alongside a salon most of Purnea books for bridal makeup as much as massage.

Off the busy road through eastern Bihar, MAYFAIR Purnea feels like a long, easy breath. Dawn is still on the yoga deck over the pond, with only the water and the birds for company. Afternoons drift by the pool and the sun terrace, a match may be under way on the cricket ground, and evenings gather softly at the poolside shack as the terrace cools.Off the busy road, MAYFAIR Purnea is a long, easy breath: dawn on the yoga deck over the pond, afternoons by the pool, and soft evenings at the poolside shack as the terrace cools.
A five-star hotel at Zero Mile, the crossroads of eastern Bihar, set in green grounds near the highway, so a journey between Patna, Siliguri and the Nepal border can pause in comfort.

A platform out over the pond: bring a mat for six o'clock, when the water and the birds are the whole of it.

The dining room takes the day and the poolside shack the evening: a grill outdoors, beside the pool, open once the terrace has cooled for the night.

Rest in an old town of the Terai, where the day slows to your pace.

Purnea is one of the older towns of eastern Bihar, a district seat since Mughal times and, under the British, the heart of an indigo and jute country whose avenues it still keeps. Around it is river country, the Kosi braiding down from the Himalaya across a wide green plain.
The comfortable months are October to March, before the plains turn hot.
